Bookcase
This bookcase was commissioned for a specific space in a room and for a valuable collection of books. The brief was for strength to be obvious with some exposed joinery. Hence the through tenons that are wedged on the outside of the sides. The wedges are in boxwood, a very dense and strong wood whose light colour contrasts beautifully with the cherry. The contrast continues with an inlaid line in the front edge of the shelves. The odd space beneath the bottom shelf was to house a particularly large atlas.
